"Normally I miss deadlines like a storm trooper misses Jedi." - @PatrickRothfuss
Deadlines remind me of the Goldilocks fairytale. Too soon and they’re overwhelming. Too far away – they can be ignored for awhile.
Have you found the following adage to be true?
"Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion" – Parkinson’s Law, Cyril Northcote Parkinson
When I’m on deadline but taking a break I find comfort in quotable quotes about….what else…deadlines!
A few favorites:
“Deadlines are a great antidote to insecurity.”
― @TinaBrownLM
“The fastest way to revise a piece of work is to send it, late at night, to someone whose opinion you fear. Then rewrite it, praying you'll finish in time to send a new version by morning.” -
Hilarious, affirming and so true about what happens after you've made big progress:
“Be prepared: When you are 90% done w/ any large project (a house, a film, an event, an app) the rest of the myriad details will take a second 90% to complete.”
- Kevin Kelly, @Kevin2Kelly
“Time is “elastic,” and you can stretch it to accommodate what you need to accomplish.”
- Alan Weiss, @BentleyGTCSpeed
“The ultimate inspiration is the deadline.”
– @NolanBushnell
“Everyone needs deadlines. Even the beavers. They loaf around all summer, but when they are faced with the winter deadline, they work like fury. If we didn't have deadlines, we'd stagnate.”
– Walt Disney
On related notes, keep going, and don’t forget to celebrate:
"Many situations in life are similar to going on a hike: the view changes once you start walking. You don't need all the answers right now. New paths will reveal themselves if you have the courage to get started." –@JamesClear
Celebrate:
"On the way to a grand goal, celebrate the smallest victories as if each one were the final goal. No matter where it ends you are victorious."
- Kevin Kelly, @kevin2kelly
